“Are there things you think photographers could do better in order to work with their printer on getting their fine-artprints to look the way they want?”

Last week, Photo District News Magazine  requested a Q&A session with Laumont’s own Master Printer, Shamus Clisset. The interview that resulted is full of practical measures artists can take to improve the quality of exhibition prints.

The Big Picture- Large Format Photography at Laumont Gallery

"The Big Picture" - Large Format Photography Exhibition at Laumont Gallery

Shamus Clisset (above right) has been a Master Printer at Laumont Photographics Studio for the past six years, specializing in digital chromogenic printing. He has collaborated to produce exhibition c-prints by Pieter Hugo, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Robert Polidori (above), Joel Sternfeld and many others. Large format works by some of these artists are part of “The Big Picture”, an ongoing exhibition at Laumont Gallery.

While observing traditional printing practices, Shamus draws knowledge from his experience as a printer, digital artist and painter, facilitating the necessary level of communication to realize a visionary’s aesthetic concepts in full exhibition format by use of Laumont’s state of the art digital printing technology. In his interview with Photo District News, Shamus explains a bit about the imaging and printing processes while offering lots of tips and advice to photographers and artists who wish to get the best possible results from their choice printer.

Photo District Network’s interview with Clisset features an exhibition of work by the late Tim Hetherington; the works were printed at Laumont, post-mortem. Clisset discusses measures taken to respect Hetherington’s intentions during the printing process. The prints were on view at the Yossi Milo Gallery in New York earlier this year.
